![]() "What is this about? This wiki is a catalog of the tricks of the trade for writing fiction. In case you somehow don't know what TV Tropes is: Spoiler tags are now implemented! Typing: Complaints about the website and its moderation will be removed.) It is an accessibility thing.(This subreddit is just a user-/fan-run community, and has nothing to do with how the site is run. I've been disabled for various reasons my entire life and I'm starting to understand my disability better more-and-more. You literally do not speak for every disabled person on here. But when you have an issue where the brain literally cannot deal with certain actions with your hands (I also cannot react very quickly at times which results in serious problems on quick action games where there's only a fixed difficulty and always a base damage/HP), which has affected my ability to do day-to-day on some stuff, and results in me taking longer to do things in some cases, having these difficulty options ARE, to me, make the games more accessible. I'm aware of how motion controls and gyro affect people (because these affect me). I am aware of the subtitles issue, because this causes me problems at times reading stuff as well. This, in turn, will make things easier for me to push through issues that, unfortunately, due to my issues with my brain, would've made it otherwise impossible. of an enemy/boss works, as well as how the layout can be sometimes. Difficulty options can reduce damage and some cases change how the A.I. ![]() This results in me doing certain actions on the controller an absolute mess for me. I literally have issues with certain functions of my brains that prevent me from doing certain actions well enough. I still believe Microsoft should include gyro sensors in their controllers and developers persist in leaving it as a toggleable option, especially as Steam Input continues to improve and has recently added flick stick aiming which has made playing shooters with a controller a more enjoyable experience for me. It seems that Dreams recently added a dual-stick alternative to gyro which is good. I'm not familiar with the forced implementation in specific Sony games, what I've heard often is that many lack gyro aiming. The most egregious examples of forced gyro in recent Nintendo games I can remember are Let's Go and the gyro shrines in BotW, otherwise the overwhelming sentiment I have seen here is that gyro / motion aiming should be a toggleable option which is the case in many games where people are happy with it such as Splatoon, BotW (where you can toggle the rune/bow aiming, the shrine puzzles being mandatory are bad), Skyrim, DOOM, and recently Crysis. I'm sorry about people dismissing your concerns. It's a reoccurring theme on these boards and I'm fucking sick and tired of this shit. That and on another disability/accessibility issue note, trying to bring attention about epilepsy often gets ignored as well. ![]() It's happened SO MANY TIMES on this board that it's just frustrating. I have disabilities that prevent me from being able to use Gyro/Motion Controls, so I absolutely get infuriated when people hand wave my issues. ![]() Every time a thread comes up, we try to talk about this issue, people hand-wave us like crazy. It's the EXACT reason why some of us are hesitant about the idea of Microsoft adding Gyro support, because both Sony and Nintendo (notably latter) have been terrible about games that could be otherwise played without it, force the functionality and don't have regulations on this. It's the same type of people who tell me "Oh, there are plenty of other games you could play instead of ones with some motion controls", when a game SHOULDN'T have mandatory motion controls sections in an otherwise completely non-motion control played game (or games that 100% could be played without it and not designed around it exclusively). And the fact people say it's because of "lore" is fucking bullshit. It never, EVER, detracts from the experience, EVER. Because people think a game shouldn't have accessibility options. ![]()
